The Pacific is much
colder, more turbulent, and nutrient-rich, and supports large
populations of open-water fishes like tuna, mackerel, jacks, and
billfish. In contrast, the Caribbean is much more stable,
shallow, and nutrient-poor, encouraging the growth of coral
reefs, sea grasses, and mangroves. In the Caribbean you can find
some of the best snook and tarpon in the world.

Full
day fishing
Sixteen to twenty miles west of Marina Flamingo are two drop-offs where
water depth increases from 360 to 2,000 feet and again from 2,000 feet to
deeper. This provides a complete eco-system of sea-life. Predominant
species include: sailfish; blue, black and striped marlin; dorado;
yellowfin and tuna.
May through October is ideal for 80 to 130 pound Sailfish. Marlin
fishing is typically good year round with the peak months being July
through September and January, February. Weather wise, May is the very
beginning of our rains, but very mild and typically on shore. The rains
gradually increase and peak during the month of October, September and
October. The intensity is usually linked to the number of hurricanes in
the Atlantic. No winds but rain. By mid-November the rains have totally
stopped until April-May. Temperature is typically in the mid to high 80's.
A full day is best for a good off shore fishing trip.
Four miles from The Marina Flamingo are the Catalina and Brumel Islands
and a series of rock outcroppings called the Sombreros. This area provides
a year round abundance of: Yellowfin Tuna, Skipjack Tuna, Wahoo, Sierra
Mackerel, Almaco Jack, and Jack Cravelle. A variety of Snapper including
Pacific Cubera or Dog Tooth, Rooster fish up to 75 pounds, Grouper, Black
Tipped Sharks, and a variety of other reef and bottom dwellers live in
this area.
